[ and really that's all he needs to say to confirm with vie about it. in the meantime, caim is finishing some paperwork in his office and doing last-minute rounds of the kennels before changing out of his scrubs. it's more than enough time for him to be ready by the time the follow-up text arrives, and it's with a small nod that he acknowledges vie once he finishes locking up. ]
[ he watches him move, taking note of his features when he gets close enough. vie has met many dangerous people in his life, has come too close to death too many times for someone as young as he is, but he still doesn't know what to make of caim. perhaps that's the nature of him—a mystery to be solved. polite and accommodating, as always, vie gives him a soft smile and tucks his phone away since he doesn't have a need for it any longer. there's a nod, just the slightest acknowledgement of his question before falling in step beside him. ]
Did you ever decide what you wanted to do? Perhaps we should get a drink and discuss your feelings.
[ it's mostly a tease, though pieces of it are somewhat serious. if caim had texted him complaints before, he wonders what he'd tell him now being face-to-face. ]
[ right, there was actual reason why vie was here. to be fair, caim isn't ... trying to be mysterious, it's just something that tends to happen with him. being distant is almost second nature, especially if he's between summonings. he prefers to keep to himself.
but still, something about vie is refreshing in a sense. it's something that he'd probably have to try and figure out later once he's alone.
in the meantime, he blinks owlishly at the question before he shakes his head with a light snort. ]
Mm. Not sure if you'd be up for me unpacking literal centuries of trauma. Not exactly date material.
[ smoothly, vie reaches out to slip his arm beneath caim's and gently hold onto him. it really shouldn't mean anything, but he likes the closeness, the warmth. he doesn't get much of it within the walls of his house or from his spouse, but there's really no love lost there. one day, they'll all die, and then, perhaps, vie could rest.
he almost laughs at his words. ]
A date? [ his hum is quiet. ] I believe that gives us plenty of time for a decent conversation, at least. Do you want a drink, or should we find a late dinner somewhere?
[ it's not as if he has a curfew, and really, he's looking forward to their exchange more than anything else. ]
[ he doesn't flinch as vie links their arms together, surprisingly. as much as he might gripe about skinship (usually when seir is the culprit), it's not something he particularly hates. ]
Isn't that what it is?
[ there's a small quirk at the corner of caim's lips before it smooths over to his normal expression. though he really does know that this all started because of his earlier complaints/"waxing poetic" about morality. or something. really, a lot of it is just that he was screaming into a metaphorical void about things - he hadn't expected vie to actually respond, if he had to be perfectly honest. ]
Dinner and drinks I think would be best. Perhaps it would shut me up for a little while.
[ vie watches him for a moment, quietly. he certainly finds the appeal in his face; caim is very handsome. there's also something about his voice that vie enjoys, but whatever else remains beneath the surface draws him closer, pausing at the corner to wait for the light and withdrawing his phone to dial a number. when it's answered, all he speaks is "two", and then, he tucks it away again, turning his head towards him. ]
There are plenty of other ways to shut you up, [ he murmurs, pulling him across the street. ] But food might help after the day I've had. Come – this way. I want to take you somewhere.
[ that somewhere is a restaurant a few blocks away, windows tinted so that passersby can't see inside. the door opens for them, and they're greeted by a rather young hostess who immediately leads them to a table despite the people waiting to be seated. a perk of his house name, he supposes, but once they're sitting, he smiles at caim. ]
[ caim can't help the somewhat fond huff of air that escapes, but he easily follows vie to their apparent destination -
well then.
it's certainly a place that values discretion for its various patrons. perhaps almost too much so, if the current favoritism is to be believed. still, it's something he can appreciate.
Once he sits down, he leans back a little, letting his shoulders relax a little. ]
Well, was there anywhere in particular you'd like to start?
[ vie refuses the drink menu and sips at the water he's poured, eyeing caim with a calmness that has always come naturally to him. if they're on a date, they should talk about their likes and dislikes and far too many other things he finds tedious and boring. if anything, he'd prefer to dive back into the conversation that had landed them there in the first place. but he needs patience, canting his head slightly and offering him a small, genuine small. ]
I should ask you that since you sounded as if you wanted to talk.
[ a pause then, giving his order to the server who seems more than eager to get things going, and once they're alone again, vie leans forward. ]
Do you like living here? [ that's an easy enough place to start, he thinks. ]
